Just for fun...

Here's a quick post for me today, as I'm doing a lot of behind-the-scenes projects for Spellbinders and trying to get them finished before my sister comes to town!

This is a Clean and Simple card using a darling set called Flutterfly Friends from Stampendous and Spellbinders™ M-Bossabilities™ Whimsy -Side B. I paper pieced the wings, and colored the body with Copic Markers. Sometimes it's just fun to create an easy card!

So I have all this gorgeous May Arts Silk Ribbon that I got from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, and I wanted to create a tutorial on how to make silk ribbon flowers for your cards, projects or scrapbook pages. I've made two types of flowers and the tutorial is below. Enjoy!

Supplies needed for Silk Flowers:

Two 6 inch pieces of 1.25 inch May Arts Burgundy Silk Ribbon

Two 4 inch pieces of 1.25 inch May Arts Olive Silk Ribbon

24 inch piece of 1.25 inch May Arts Pink Silk Ribbon

Three 3 inch pieces of 1.25 inch May Arts Green Silk Ribbon

May Arts Olive Burlap String

Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Standard Circles LG #3

Size 26 needle with double stranded pink floss

Chenille Needle (large eye needle for wide silk ribbon)

Rhinestones, Pearls and Stamens (at your local craft store in the wedding section)

Elmer's Tape Runner

Beacon Adhesives 3-in-1 Glue

Instructions for Silk Flowers:

For burgundy silk flower, fold silk ribbon lengthwise about 1/8 from the top edge. With needle and thread, sew a running stitch along the length of the ribbon. Pull thread tight until ribbon gathers into a circle and tie tightly. Fluff inner ribbon for your flower.

To create the leaves, tie a knot in each of the two 4 inch pieces of olive silk ribbon in the center. With sharp scissors, cut ends at a pointed angle. Glue knot to back of your burgundy flower and arrange your leaves. Tie a multi-looped bow with the Olive burlap string, fold and glue to the back of your burgundy flower. Add shiny rhinestones or pearls in the centers.

To make your ribbon rose, cut a circle with Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Standard Circles LG #3. With needle and thread, sew 5 spokes onto the circle as shown. This is the base for your silk ribbon rose. You can make this smaller to fit your creation.

Thread the Chenille needle with the pink ribbon length and bring it up through the center hole in your circle and glue the end of the ribbon to the back. Twist your length of silk ribbon until it spirals a bit, then insert it underneath one of the floss spokes on your circle. (This makes each rose petal more fluffy when you twist the ribbon). Skip the next spoke, then go under the following spoke. Pull the ribbon snug against the center as shown in the second photo. 

Continue in the same manner around the circle, twisting the ribbon, and going under a spoke, skipping the next one, then going under again. Do not pull these ribbons tight. You want to keep it loose as your rose starts to form. Keep doing this until you run out of ribbon. Glue the end of the ribbon underneath the petals. Fluff and adjust the petals to your liking.

To create the leaves for your rose, add glue to one end of your green silk ribbon piece and fold and adhere as shown in first photo. Fold one corner down to make a triangle and glue to the back of the rose circle. Make 3 leaves.

Thought of you today...

Here's a sweet card I created for the Splitcoast Stampers Clean and Simple challenge! I love my fancy cards, but the CAS look is growing on me! I just need to learn how to keep it clean, especially when I have so many embellishments lying around! Heck, I didn't even put a ribbon on it, which is rare indeed for me!

Of course, this was a very quick card to make! I folded a piece of Bazzill cardstock and used Spellbinders™ Grand Labels Twenty-Three Grand Nestabilities® to cut out my card. To do this technique you place the folded edge just inside the die, run it through your Grand Calibur® machine, and you get a die cut card.

I embossed a white piece of cardstock with M-Bossabilities™ "Flower Fun - Side B" and cut out three strips of 3 flowers and adhered them to peach cardstock. I used Copic Marker R22 for the flower centers. I attached my three floral pieces to my card and stamped a sentiment from Sweet 'n Sassy with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

For my final touch, I created a pretty flower using Shapeabilities® Bauble Blossom Two. I airbrushed the blossom while it was still in the die with Copic Markers, then assembled my flower and used a pretty pearl brad for the center. I added it to my card and was pleased with the results!

JustRite Friday Challenge...

It's time for the JustRite Papercraft Friday Challenge and our theme this time is to make a card or project that is "Anything but a Square"! I created an Easel Card using this tutorial I found on Splitcoast Stampers by the lovely Beate Johns.

My creation uses JustRite Papercraft Botanical Butterflies, Spring Words and Your Special Day Medallion Labels stamp sets. My gorgeous pansy floral paper is from the Die Cuts with a View stack called "The Four Seasons". I've used JustRite Papercraft's Nested Oval Medallion Labels die, and Spellbinders™ Decorative Elements Nestabilities® Lattice Rectangles, and Labels Seventeen for my sentiment and easel base. I finished with sparkly glass glitter and a big gorgeous double bow with a jeweled center using May Arts silk ribbon from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.

I hope everyone had a very lovely Mother's Day! I spent the day crafting and spending time talking with Nessa and Lee on the phone, and watching a movie with Al!! A great day!

This pretty card worked up fast, especially when you use a background paper that is your focal point! I chose a lovely hydrangea patterned paper from K & Company's Tim Coffey Cottage Garden paper stack. My gorgeous ribbon treatment features May Arts Ribbon from The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, Spellbinders™ Shapeabilities® Ribbon Buckles and a couple of my decorative stick pins.

I cut two of the largest ornate Ribbon buckle out of Doodlebug White Glitter Paper and threaded one of them with Royal Blue and Ivory striped grosgain ribbon then adhered it to my background paper. I added a gorgeous silk bow I made from 1.25 Silk Ribbon - Celery and wrapped the ends to the back before mounting that panel to more glitter paper, then to a blue card. I cut my second Ribbon buckle in half and attached them to the top and bottom of the former buckle to give a more lacy effect. 

I cut, embossed and stenciled on the tag piece of Twisted Metal Tags and Accents before stamping my sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black. I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D foam dots to adhere my sentiment to my card, then I added two of my decorative stick pins, a few pretty pearls and rhinestones to finish the card.

Blessed...

Unfortunately, there are times in our lives where we experience loss and we need to create a Sympathy card for a loved one. Today, my card looks complicated, but is quick to achieve, yet gives an appearance of elegance and thoughtfulness.

My card uses a beautiful stamp set called With Sympathy by JustRite Papercraft and there are so many beautiful sentiments in it. A stunning rose stamp is my focal point and it too comes with the set. I stamped the rose on the left side of a white card and my sentiment in the upper right corner. I used Copic Markers R81 and RV00 to color my roses and outline my sentiment. My foliage was colored with G21 and G40.  To finish my card I added a gorgeous silk bow with May Arts silk ribbon from The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.

Belli Challenge...

It's time for a new Belli Challenge #143 and our theme for the next two weeks is "Baby/New Arrival"! I created a fast and simple baby card using stamps from Fiskars and sweet paper from the new S.E.I. "Vanilla Sunshine!

To create my border, I used Spellbinders™ Edgeabilities® Classic Edges Two (Classic Petal Edge) with Classic Decorative Inserts Three (Pointed Edge). I stamped my images with Memento Tuxedo black ink, added a bit of shading with a Copic Marker and added a pretty silk ribbon bow from The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. I finished with a few of my decorative pins (you can purchase in my Etsy shop) and topped it off with a pink twine bow.

I created my card as a CAS (Clean and Simple) card as this will be for my nephew for graduation and he doesn't like a lot of fussy stuff on his cards. A few basic masculine papers from Teresa Collins Everyday Moments paper stack, a bright yellow ribbon and some glittery number stickers and my card was done. I stamped the two images from Summer Words on white cardstock, then colored them lightly with Copic Marker Y26 for a gold touch. I cut them out then mounted them with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Dots to my card!

JustRite Papercraft May Release Day 3 and Friday Challenge!

Today is the third day of the JustRite Papercraft May Release and it also coincides with the JustRite Friday Inspiration Challenge.  We are introducing more stamps and we've themed our creations to fit the Friday Challenge which is to make a 3D Project!!

My mom gave me this box of soaps so I decided to jazz it up a bit for my project! I stamped the Heart Scroll Background with Versamark on yellow cardstock then embossed with white embossing powder. I cut 2 Spellbinders™ Edgeabilities® Classic Edges Two out of the yellow and adhered them to the top and bottom of that panel. I saved the waste piece for the side. I scored the piece so that it would fold easy against my box and glued it into place. I added pretty lace trim and silk ribbon, then topped the side piece with pearls. 

I stamped my Iris from the Botanical Medallions & Banners stamp set onto ivory cardstock with Versamark and embossed with white. I colored the image with Copic markers and added pretty pearls. I stamped my Vintage Soap label onto vellum with Versamark and embossed again with white. I cut out the largest  Nested Oval Medallion Labels in white cardstock and the next one below that in ivory. I adhered my vellum piece to my ivory panel and embossed my white cut out with Spellbinders™ M-Bossabilities™ Sea Beauty (Side A).

I added Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Dots to my iris and my two die pieces and mounted them to my soap box panel. I added a double silk ribbon bow to finish the box off. For the soap decoration, I stamped Classic Art Deco Lace Edges One with Versamark on vellum and embossed with white. I cut around the edges and tacked the ends together to fit around the soap. I then wrapped a soft silk ribbon and bow around the middle of the soap and its ready for display!

I stamped two images of the Violet Vintage Labels on white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then cut them out with the new JustRite Papercraft Vintage Label and Banner Dies . I colored them with Copic makers then attached them to a small strip of scrap paper. I wrapped gorgeous silk ribbon from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store around the piece then added my lace trim. I mounted my colored panel to my patterned paper, then to a white panel, then my purple card. I added a matching silk bow and some of my decorative stick pins (which I'll have more in my store by this weekend! I'm all sold out!) I stamped my banner sentiment then cut it out with the banner die, then adhered it to my card and was finished!

I haven't made any Father's Day cards since my dad passed in 2000, so masculine cards have been a bit difficult for me. When I saw Anchors Away, I knew the sentiment was perfect for my card today. I stamped the Cozy Plaid Background stamp on purple cardstock with Versamark and embossed with silver embossing powder. I then stamped the Rope frame on a dotted pattern paper with Versamark and embossed with black. I colored the rope around the frame with a Sakura White Gel pen, and a touch of gray and purple to the frame with Copic Markers. Next, I stamped my sentiment on a dark purple patterned paper with Versamark and embossed with white. I added pop dots for dimension and threaded rope through the frame for a seafaring look before adhering it to a black panel and a purple card!  The handsome man in the photo is my Father!
